Do you have an idea for a puppet, a show, or an event? We might be able to help. Squallis Puppeteers has made work for Forecastle, Jim James, Forest Giant, The Kentucky Opera, The Fraiser History Museum, Stage One, Looking For Lillith, and many more.
Squallis Puppeteers will make puppets on commission, but there are a few important details: First, we need plenty of notice. Most of our time is spent working in the community with kids. Studio work must be scheduled a few months in advance so that we are able to give a project the time it deserves. And second, we must remain true to our ideals and to our artistic philosophy.
Obviously we cannot afford to make puppets for free, no matter how much we might love and respect the school, non-profit organization or annual event that might want to hire us. Our prices will vary depending on the specifics of each project. On average, our standard backpack puppet would cost $2000-$3000. Sometime we can offer a discounted rate if the puppet will be returned to Squallis after it has been used by the customer, provided it is something that will be useful to us.
Squallis has always worked hard to collaborate with other local arts groups who are interested in the art of puppetry. In the past, Actors Theater of Louisville interns have made shows for our First Saturday Show Series. And other local puppeteers and theater professionals have been invited to write, make and direct performances for Puppet Prom, as well as other live events. If you think you might like to get involved, contact us, or volunteer and get to know our organization a little better.
